Album from the Maine, 1899-10 - 1900-03
Scope and Contents
Album with signatures from the staff of the hospital ship Maine which Lady Randolph Churchill raised funds for and sailed with to South Africa during the Boer War. Includes photographs, mainly of leading generals, a letter from Lady Sarah Wilson (Lord Randolph Churchill's sister) congratulating Lady Randolph on her forthcoming marriage to George Cornwallis-West and describing her time in Mafeking [later Mafikeng] while under siege and a later covering note from Grace Hamblin, secretary to Clementine Churchill (1963).
