Middle East, 1926 - 1928

 Sub-Series
Reference Code: GBR/0014/BGND B.2-B.8

Scope and Contents

From the Series:

This section includes documentation of Bagnold's early explorations with fellow officers in the Middle East and North Africa 1926-32, particularly the expedition of 1932. There is also a little material from other overseas visits 1933-38. Bagnold's scientific research is less well documented; most of the material dates from the post-war period and the work best represented is Bagnold's later research on random distributions. There is also a set of Bagnold's publications.

The pre-second world war material relates almost entirely to Bagnold's expeditions in the Middle East and North Africa from 1926. This material is supplemented by maps in Section D and photographs in Section E. Bagnold's explorations between 1926 and 1932 are recounted in his book 'Libyan Sands. Travel in a Dead World' first published in 1935. At B.38 is Bagnold's own set of his published papers, with bibliography.
