Letters from LSA to his mother Elizabeth Amery [earlier Elizabeth Leitner] on subjects including: a visit to Turkey, including Constantinople [later Istanbul] and Salonika [later Thessaloniki]; his election to a fellowship at All Souls College [University of Oxford]; a visit to Vienna [Austria] and meeting William Lavino, correspondent for the Times; LSA's travels in Bulgaria, Serbia and Macedonia and difficulties with the Turkish authorities; his visit to Bosnia and Montenegro; joining the Times and starting work in Berlin [Germany] and then South Africa; Volume 1 of the Times History of the War in South Africa; LSA's meeting with Sir Alfred Milner [High Commissioner for South Africa].
