Scope and Contents
Diary of Cadogan's first year in China. Subjects covered include: the ongoing difficult relationship between Japan and China and the importance of balancing British interests in the region; his promotion to Ambassador in June 1935; Cadogan's relationship with the Foreign Office and the impact of Frederick Leith-Ross' mission; the Chinese financial crisis and difficulties with journalists as well social and family events.
