Scope and Contents
Working papers on leisure, covering subjects such as sport; cinema attendance; television licences and viewing habits; overseas travel and behaviour of British holidaymakers; betting and gambling; the relationship between leisure and religion; leisure time budgeting, weekends, and working hours; arts patronage and funding; leisure facilities and community life; evening classes and adult education; hobbies; home life and DIY; and leisure in West Germany [later part of Germany], Poland, and the USA. Consists largely of press cuttings, articles, and survey data, with Mark Abrams's notes. Includes drafts of Mark Abrams's papers "Social Aspects of Leisure" (n.d., c. 1960), and "The Home-Centred Society" (1961). Also includes copy of an Associated Television script for the programme 'The Warning Voice: Leisure' (23 February 1962), with Mark Abrams.
