Mainly correspondence on the British Atlantic Committee, of which FR was President, with correspondents including: 6th Lord Carrington, Foreign Secretary, on plans for the BBC’s External Services and FR’s retirement as President of the British Atlantic Committee (2); Joseph Luns, Secretary-General of NATO (4); Theodore Achilles, Vice-Chairman of the Atlantic Council of the United States, on Government support for the British Atlantic Committee and a suggestion that [Leonard] James Callaghan might take on the Directorship (2); [John] Nicholas Elam, Foreign and Commonwealth Office, on the funding of Atlantic Committees in NATO countries (2); Sir John Killick on taking on the presidency of the British Atlantic Committee (2); Alan Lee Williams, Labour Committee for Transatlantic Understanding, asking FR to speak at an event; Eldon Griffiths on refuting the developing anti-NATO campaign; Hugh Hanning, Director of the British Atlantic Committee (3); Lord Thomson of Monifieth on finding FR’s successor as President of the British Atlantic Committee; Edward Heath on FR’s retirement from the presidency; Sir Neil Cameron on succeeding FR; Sir Patrick Dean on FR’s retirement; Manlio Brosio, Secretary-General of NATO, thanking FR for his work as President of the Atlantic Treaty Association.
