Scope and Contents
Papers from Madeline Whyte [Clementine Churchill's cousin] relating to the Doves Press and its founder (and her teacher), Thomas Cobden-Sanderson. Includes: Doves Press prints of a speech by 1st Lord Redesdale [earlier Algernon Freeman-Mitford] to the School of Arts and Crafts on discontent, and of an address by Blanche, Lady Airlie, on replenishment; letters to [?] Blanche, Lady Airlie and Mabell, Lady Airlie, from Cobden-Sanderson, 1918, on visiting Holkham Hall [Norfolk], and on a drawing of him by Alphonse Legros [print enclosed, also with a small printed photograph of Cobden-Sanderson]; small printed book on bookbinding, by Cobden-Sanderson; note by Madeline about Lady Dorothy Nevill, in front of a printed open letter in tribute to Lady Dorothy by Edmund Gosse, 1913; note written by Madeline to MS on Maude Alethea Stanley (Clementine’s great-aunt) in front of published tribute to her.
