Scope and Contents

The Centre for Policy Studies was established in 1974 by Margaret Thatcher and Keith Joseph to serve as a ‘think-tank’ for the Conservative Party.

Jones was invited to join as a Director in 1983 and was formally voted on to the Board the following year. He stood down in 1988. Jones also served on two of the Centre’s Study Groups, those on Defence, which he chaired, and Education.
