Scope and Contents
Papers, press cuttings and correspondence relating to land clearance in Hong Kong and proposed changes to the Immigration laws, used by AFB as source material for his Question in the House of Lords on Hong Kong. Includes: pamphlet by Walter Easey, "Ducking Responsibility, Britain and Hong Kong in the '80s"; White Paper from the Government of Hong Kong on district administration; papers on police violence during the clearances; correspondence with 2nd Lord Denham, Government Chief Whip in the House of Lords [earlier Bertram Bowyer] on AFB's Question; briefing papers on changes to immigration rules relating to Asian marriages; copy of the Colombo Declaration on population and development; copies of the Southern Rhodesia Bill and of the Foreign and Commonwealth Office's summary of the independence constitution of Rhodesia [later Zambia and Zimbabwe]; unpublished report from the Joint Council for the Welfare of Immigrants on the European Commission of Human Rights and British Immigration policy.
Also includes a speech made by 1st Lord Mountbatten, June 1979 on nuclear disarmament and a copy of Hansard with a debate in the House of Lords on nuclear power, November 1979, sent to AFB by Lord Noel-Baker [earlier Philip Baker].
