Biographical / Historical

Robin Christopher was born on 13 Oct 1944. He was educated at Keble College, University of Oxford (BA) and the Fletcher School of International Law and Diplomacy, Tufts University, in the United States (MA). In 1980, he married Merril Stevenson, having two daughters.

He joined the Foreign and Commonwealth Office in 1970 and his diplomatic career included: Second, then First, Secretary, New Delhi [India], 1972; First Secretary, FCO, 1976; Deputy Head of Mission, Lusaka [Zambia], 1980; FCO, 1983; on secondment to Cabinet Office, 1985; Counsellor: Madrid [Spain], 1987; FCO, 1991; Ambassador: to Ethiopia, 1994–97; to Indonesia, 1997–2000; to Argentina, 2000–04.
