Speech notes and copies of Hansard for WSC's speech (12 July, House of Commons) entitled "Visit to the United States and Canada" on subjects including: WSC's concern at the lack of information given by the United States on their hydrogen bomb tests; his visit with Anthony Eden [later 1st Lord Avon], Foreign Secretary, for personal talks with Dwight Eisenhower, President of the United States; hopes for more open relations in future; his reception in Canada; Britain's common aims with the United States on reducing armaments, supporting the United Nations, and developing spiritual, economic and military strength; the failure of France to ratify the European Defence Community agreement, and West Germany's equal share in Western defence; negotiations on Indo China [later Vietnam] and South East Asian defence; the possibility of China joining the United Nations; the aim of peaceful coexistence with the Communist States.
