Scope and Contents
Includes correspondence on corrections to be made to Volume 4 of "The Second World War" from individuals including: Denis Kelly (5); Charles Wood; WSC on a reference to [?Reginald] Dorman Smith; Sir Norman Brook [later 1st Lord Normanbrook, Secretary to the Cabinet]; 1st Lord Ismay on the need to amend a reference to Gandhi taking glucose during his fast; the Visconde de Meirelles on the use of 'neutral' planes during the war; [George] Gordon Allen; Lieutenant-General Sir Henry Pownall (2); Major-General Alexander Gatehouse; and "Jock" [Sir John] Colville. Also includes notes and copies of correspondence from WSC and Lettice Marston [later Lettice Shillingford, Secretary to WSC] and "N S" ["Jo" Sturdee, later Lady Onslow, Secretary to WSC].Some source material is also present in the file including information (dating to May 1943) on the distribution of troops in the Mediterranean area and copies of two directives from Adolf Hitler on German operations in the Soviet Union (dating to April and July 1942).Most material in the file dates to 1951-1953.
