Scope and Contents
Typescript and galley proofs of Chapter 45 "Italy the goal" (provisionally entitled "Decisions in North Africa") annotated with suggested amendments and corrections by various people including Denis Kelly, William Deakin, WSC, Charles Wood, 1st Lord Ismay, Emery Reves [earlier Imre Revesz], Sir Norman Brook [later 1st Lord Normanbrook, Secretary to the Cabinet], [George] Gordon Allen and Lieutenant-General Sir Henry Pownall.Some source material also present in the file including: notes from Ismay on WSC's visit to Algiers and Tunis in May 1943; outline notes for the chapter by WSC; notes from Norman Brook and Allen on the publication of a despatch from Admiral Sir Andrew Cunningham (dated January 1944 when he was Commander in Chief of the Mediterranean) on the invasion of Sicily; and a copy of a note from WSC (dated May 1943) on the need to use the troops which were assembling for 'Bolero' (codename for the preparations for the invasion of Normandy).
