Includes typescript and galley proofs of Chapter 29 "Return to Cairo" annotated with suggested amendments and corrections by various people including Denis Kelly, William Deakin, WSC, Charles Wood, 1st Lord Ismay, [George] Gordon Allen, Sir Norman Brook [later 1st Lord Normanbrook, Secretary to the Cabinet] and Lieutenant-General Sir Henry Pownall.Some source material also present including: a file of papers on the assault on Dieppe [France] on 19 August 1942 including a paper by Lord Mountbatten of Burma [then Chief of Combined Operations] and notes on the shackling of prisoners of war; correspondence and notes from Charles Wood, Pownall on subjects including Norman Brook's reasons for declining Middle East command (2), Lord Ismay (3), Denis Kelly (2) and William Deakin; outline notes for the chapter by WSC; notes from Lettice Marston [later Lettice Shillingford, Secretary to WSC], "Chips" Gemmell [Secretary to WSC] and "N S" [Jo Sturdee, later Lady Onslow].
