Includes typescript and galley proofs of Chapter 22 "My second visit to Washington" annotated with suggested amendments and corrections by various people including Denis Kelly, William Deakin, WSC, Charles Wood, 1st Lord Ismay, Sir Edward Marsh, Sir Norman Brook [later 1st Lord Normanbrook, Secretary to the Cabinet], [George] Gordon Allen, Emery Reves [earlier Imre Revesz], and Lieutenant-General Sir Henry Pownall.Some source material also present including: notes by Ismay on WSC's visit to Washington and on the visit by Vyacheslav Molotov, Soviet Union Foreign Minister, to London and the United States; outline notes by WSC for the chapter including on the Cairo [Egypt] conference and the impact of the fall of Tobruk [Libya]; a copy of a telegram from Lewis Douglas [United States Ambassador to Great Britain] on ships to Suez; a note from "Tommy" [Commander Charles Thompson, former Personal Assistant to WSC]; notes on Barbara Fritchie's house and a transcribed poem about her [by John Greenleaf Whittier]; and some printed telegrams dating to June 1942.Most of the material in the file dates to 1949-1950.
