Includes typescript, manuscript and galley proofs of Chapter 31 "Japan". Annotated with notes and suggestions by various people including: WSC, Denis Kelly, William Deakin, Charles Wood, Lieutenant-General Sir Henry Pownall, [1st Lord] Ismay, [George] Gordon Allen, Sir Edward Marsh, Randolph Churchill, G F Hudson and ?1st Lord Alanbrooke.Some source material is also present in the file including: correspondence from Allen (2), Deakin (2), Hudson and Sir Norman Brook [later 1st Lord Normanbrook, Secretary to the Cabinet] on subjects including the Foreign Office's opinion of the chapter; typed transcripts of telegrams dating to April 1941 from Anthony Eden [later 1st Lord Avon, then Foreign Secretary] to Sir Robert Craigie [then British Ambassador to Japan]; and notes on a history by Erich Kordt [former political advisor to Joachim von Ribbentrop] .The majority of items in the file date to 1949.
