Scope and Contents

Includes typescript and galley proofs of Chapter 9 entitled "Yugoslavia" (provisionally entitled "Hungary and the War", "German Conquest of Greece. Yugoslavia", "Yugoslavia and Turkey" and "The Revolution in Belgrade"), annotated with notes and comments by various individuals including: WSC, Denis Kelly, Charles Wood, Sir Edward Marsh, William Deakin, Jay Gold, CSC, Randolph Churchill and Lieutenant-General Sir Henry Pownall.The file also includes some source material, including: copies of reports from 1st Lord Halifax [British Ambassador to the United States, earlier Edward Wood and Lord Irwin] on the anti-British attitude of Admiral Jean Darlan and his plans for the French fleet, and the situation in Casablanca [Morocco] (January - February 1941); copy of a telegram from Field Marshal Sir Archibald Wavell, Commander-in-Chief, Middle East, on the enemy threat in Egypt and Cyrenaica [Libya] (March 1941); copy of a telegram from Sir Hughe Knatchbull-Hugessen [British Ambassador to Turkey] on Turkey's agreement to Britain aiding Greece, and on keeping Turkey out of the war (March 1941).The majority of material in the file dates to 1948 - 1950.
