Includes typescript and galley proofs of Chapter 7 entitled "The Battle of the Atlantic: The Western Approaches", annotated with notes and comments by various individuals including: WSC, Denis Kelly, Charles Wood, Sir Edward Marsh, William Deakin, Jay Gold, CSC, Sir Norman Brook [later 1st Lord Normanbrook, Secretary to the Cabinet], Lieutenant- General Sir Henry Pownall and George [Gordon] Allen.Also includes: galley proofs of Chapter 8 "The Battle of the Atlantic: American Intervention" (provisionally entitled "The Battle of the Atlantic: The Ocean") and of Volume 2, Chapter 30 "Ocean Peril" (provisionally entitled "The Air and the U-boats", including material from Chapter 3 "Blitz and Anti-Blitz. [Rudolf] Hess"); galley proofs from Appendix F "Military Directives and Minutes, January - June 1941", provisionally intended to feature in Chapter 7; galley proofs of various chapter headings in Volume 3; notes by Allen and 1st Lord Ismay commenting on the Battle of the Atlantic and the chapter as a whole.
