Includes typescript, manuscript, and galley proofs annotated with suggested corrections and amendments from various people including: [William] Deakin [literary assistant], "E M" [Sir Edward Marsh], WSC, [secretary Elizabeth Gilliatt], "Van" [1st Lord Vansittart], and "O S" [Sir Orme Sargent, Permanent Under-Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs].Also includes: typescript and galley proofs ("superseded proofs") of contemporary letters from WSC, Lord Cranborne [earlier Robert Gascoyne Cecil, later 5th Lord Salisbury], and Prime Minister Stanley Baldwin, and extracts from the House of Commons official report, for incorporation into the chapter; provisional chapter proofs entitled "A note on sanctions, 1935-6", "Italy and the League, 1935", "Italy Estranged", and "The Peace Ballot and Abyssinia [Ethiopia]" and sections provisionally intended to feature in a chapter entitled "The General Election of 1935"; notes on Vansittart and French policy in eastern Europe.
