Correspondents include: Charles Morgan, M P, with notes on WSC's founding of the Naval Division in 1914; James Thomas [later 1st Lord Cilcennin] with his recollections of WSC's exclusion from the "Sidney Herbert Committee" which opposed Neville Chamberlain and events surrounding the resignation of Anthony [Eden, later 1st Lord Avon] as Foreign Secretary (4); John Wheeler Bennett of the Foreign Office Library; Randolph Churchill requesting access to WSC's papers; Sir Norman Brook [later 1st Lord Normanbrook], Secretary to the Cabinet, and John Hunt, Private Secretary to Norman Brook on WSC's wish to see correspondence between himself and General Wavell.The file includes transcriptions of documents including: letters about WSC's rejoining the government in 1917 from Christopher Addison, Minister of Munitions, Frederick Guest, Government Chief Whip, Lord Charles Beresford, [1st Lord] Curzon, Jan Smuts, [17th Lord] Derby [earlier Lord Stanley], George Younger, Walter Young, and Rufus [1st Lord Reading, earlier Rufus Isaacs]; copies of articles from the Morning Post about WSC's proposals for naval estimates, 1914; photocopies and translations of a letter from Count Munster, German Ambassador to France (1890); letters from King George VI to WSC 1940-1950; correspondence between WSC and Neville Chamberlain, 1937-1940, on issues including relations with Nazi Germany; and correspondence between WSC and General Wavell, 1940-1941.Also includes copies of correspondence from WSC to the individuals mentioned above; and notes and correspondence from "Jo" Sturdee [later Lady Onslow], Secretary to WSC, John Colville [Private Secretary to WSC] and Denis Kelly [Literary Assistant to WSC].
