Letter from Mother [Lady Randolph Churchill] (?Villa des Fleurs) to "Jack" [John S Churchill] marked "private" and "tear up" in which he says she left Clara [Frewen, earlier Clara Jerome] in Rome [Italy] and that Clara was "forlorn" after Hugh's [Hugh Frewen's] wedding; apologises that he is troubled by her affairs; discusses George [Cornwallis West's] mismanagement of finances and his responsibility for the payment of bills; expresses her keenness that the decree nisi [relating to her divorce from George] should be made absolute; discusses her return to London ["Who cares if I return or not...What am I? Only an old 5th wheel"]. Signed manuscript.
