Letter from WSC (35 A, Great Cumberland Place [London]) to "Jack" [John S Churchill] including: news that [Sir Ernest] Cassel would like Jack to return; the marriage of "Mamma" [Lady Randolph Churchill] to George Cornwallis West, about which he comments "the whole of the Churchill family from Sunny [Charles, 9th Duke of Marlborough] downwards was drawn in a solid phalanx and their approval ratified the business"; discussion of financial affairs; his decision to contest Oldham [Lancashire] and the news of his enthusiastic reception there; sales of his books; a visit to the House of Commons where [Joseph] Chamberlain treated him civilly; the murder of the King of Italy and the death of the Duke of Edinburgh; and advice to return home.
