Letter from "Jack" [John S Churchill] (France) to "Mama" [Lady Randolph Churchill] including: the Battle of the Somme; the fatigue experienced by troops in the front line; the successes of the ANZAC troops; the superior organisation of the French troops; news of Hugh Warrender and a conversation which "Goonie" [Gwendeline Churchill, earlier Gwendeline Bertie] has had with the Prime Minister [Herbert Asquith, later Lord Oxford and Asquith] in which the latter expressed concern about "the waste of [WSC's] genius". Envelope present.
