Scope and Contents

Typescript transcript of a letter from Lord Randolph Churchill, Secretary of State for India to Grant Duff [Governor of Madras, India] in which he comments on the arrival of the new State prisoner in Madras, discusses the annexation of Burma [later Myanmar] and the likelihood that a Lhama will be appointed, makes observations on political affairs and the "democratic element" in the House of Commons and the imminent end of the Conservative government. In a postscript he discusses the Parliamentary Enquiry into the Indian Government and asks Duff to consider officials who might represent the interests of Madras.
