Typescript transcript of a letter from Lord Randolph Churchill, Secretary of State for India, to Grant Duff [Governor of Madras, India] including: thanks for his memorandum demonstrating the harmonious relations between the government authorities in India; the triumph of the Burma [later Myanmar] expedition; the success of placing Liberals in positions in India which has eliminated party politics from Indian affairs; discussion of political affairs and his opinion that the Conservative government under [Robert, 3rd] Lord Salisbury will not survive; and Turkish affairs and the fragility of the "ill-omened and unholy" alliance between Austria, Russia and Turkey.
