Offprint of an article entitled "Social London - Past and Present" by Mrs Cornwallis West [Lady Randolph Churchill] in Harper's Bazaar which includes the following subjects: the topography of London and its planning; the increase in traffic; the social calendar; the popularity of gardening; horse riding; current fashions in women's clothing; increasing opulence and decline in manners; women's involvement with charitable work; the improvement of education of women, the rise of clubs for women and the decline of musical education; women's tastes in food; gambling; society and the decline in importance of artistocratic rank; hostesses; and female involvement with politics and canvassing.
