Scope and Contents

Letter from WSC ("On bank Nile 20 miles from Metemma" [Sudan]) to "Mamma" [Lady Randolph Churchill] in which he says that the letter will be transported by a steamer which will take sick men suffering from heat apoplexy and sunstroke; describes poor food and the hard and long daily marches necessitated by the "mismanagement and miscalculation" of the Sirdar [Sir Herbert Kitchener] but says that he is enjoying himself; comments that there are several newspaper correspondents in his squadron; and describes the difficulties of catching up with the squadrons during the night. Pencil. Envelope present.
