Scope and Contents

Letter from WSC (4th Hussars [Bangalore] India) to "Mamma" [Lady Randolph Churchill] including: his plans to visit England before travelling to Egypt unless an early advance up the Nile becomes likely; a request that she should arrange a dinner for Sir Bindon Blood and his wife and two public meetings for WSC; the progress and publication of his novel "Affairs of State" [published as "Savrola"]; a request that she should continue to use her influence regarding his appointment in Egypt; discussion of the reaction to his letter about the Tirah [Expeditionary Force, see CHAR 28/24/68-73] and to an article about Cuba and Spain; his opinions on relations between the United States and Britain, international relations and the British Empire, and on [Joseph] Chamberlain whom he describes as a "political vampire". Envelope present.
