Scope and Contents

Letter from WSC (4th Hussars [Bangalore] India) to "Mamma" [Lady Randolph Churchill] informing her that he is travelling to Calcutta to try and secure an appointment with the Tirah Field Force. He asks her to ask [Albert Edward, Prince of Wales] to write to Sir William Lockhart on his behalf, discusses the meanness of the D[aily] T[elegraph], asks her to use her influence to secure his posting to Egypt, speculates on the fragility of life and the future career of "Jack" [John S Churchill]. In a postscript he discusses the speeches of [Lord] Curzon [later Lord Curzon of Kedleston] on India. Envelope present.
