Scope and Contents

Letter from WSC (Bangalore, [India]) to "Mamma" [Lady Randolph Churchill] in which he thanks her for not forcing him to sell his racing pony; expresses his concern about Hugo [Baring] who is ill with fever; says that he hopes that the rain may alleviate the serious famine in India and that the high price of grain is leading to riots; asks her to come to visit him and to send him a copy of Macaulay's History of England and says that he is about to finish reading Gibbon and is glad that she enjoys his letters.
