Scope and Contents
Letter from WSC (4th (The Queen's Own) Hussars, Hounslow [Middlesex]) to "Mamma" [Lady Randolph Churchill] discussing arrangements to join her at Cowes [Isle of Wight] and the possibility that he may be sent to Rhodesia [later Zambia and Zimbabwe] and "scenes of adventure and excitement" with the 9th Lancers which he says he would prefer to "useless and unprofitable exile" in India. He outlines the possible progress of his military career and the medals he might be awarded before entering politics if he could avoid going to India and asks her to use her influence with friends of [Lord Randolph Churchill].
