Scope and Contents
Letter from WSC (Gran Hotel Inglaterra, Parque Central, Havana, Cuba) to "Mamma" [Lady Randolph Churchill] in which he congratulates her on the success of a race horse; expresses his relief at having returned safely; gives an account of the fighting he was involved with at Sancti Spiritus [Cuba] under Suarez Valdez, which he also described in a letter to the Daily Graphic; reports that the general had recommended that he and [Reginald Barnes] should receive the Red Cross and comments on his own good fortune in avoiding death File CHAR 28/21 also contains two unbound typescript transcripts of the letter.
