Scope and Contents

Part of a letter from WSC (763, Fifth Avenue, New York [United States]) to "Jack" [John S Churchill] in which he gives details of his plans to travel to Havana [Cuba]; describes visits to fire stations, to court and to the "American Sandhurst" at the Forts of the Harbour and the West Point where the rules for cadets are strict. He makes observations on the American press and on the United States which he describes as "great and utilitarian" and as a country where reverence and tradition are absent. He also says that he has met "Sunny" [Charles, 9th Duke of Marlborough] and likens the American people to a "great hearty youth.
