Scope and Contents

Letter from WSC ([4th Hussars] Aldershot [Hampshire]) to "Mamma" [Lady Randolph Churchill] in which he explains his reasons for not wishing to study the subject of supplying army horses; discusses his education and reports that he is reading [Henry] Fawcett's writing on political economy and intends to read Gibbon and Lecky's European Morals. He also discusses the likelihood of being based at Hampton Court [Surrey], and his sadness at the deaths of [Elizabeth] Everest, [Lord Randolph Churchill and Clara Jerome].
