Scope and Contents

Letter from Lord Randolph Churchill (Hotel Royal, Naples [Italy]) to Jennie [Lady Randolph Churchill] informing her that he and "Harry T" have arrived at Naples without servants or luggage and describing his escape from cholera quarantine in Messina [Sicily] by being smuggled on a Sicilian fishing boat and driven in a mule cart, and his fear that he might have been put in prison. He also observes that [3rd Lord] Salisbury was foolish to accept Lord Randolph's resignation, criticises [W H] Smith and Arthur Balfour, and asks her to thank WSC and "Jack" [John S Churchill] for their letters.
