Notes of a meeting on the coal dispute, between the Coal Committee (Stanley Baldwin, Prime Minister, Winston Churchill, Chancellor of the Exchequer, Sir Laming Worthington-Evans, Secretary of State for War, 1st Lord Birkenhead [earlier F E Smith], Sir Arthur Steel-Maitland, Minister of Labour, George Lane-Fox, Secretary for Mines [later 1st Lord Bingley], Sir Ernest Gowers, Permanent Under-Secretary, Mines Department and Christopher Hurst, Assistant Under-Secretary, Mines Department) and the Executive Committee of the Miners' Federation. Subjects discussed include: agreeing national principles for wage settlements, to be decided within districts; minimum rates of pay; the subsistence wage; a national tribunal; working hours, including the Eight Hours Bill.
