Notes of meeting on the coal dispute between Stanley Baldwin, Prime Minister, 1st Lord Birkenhead [earlier F E Smith], Neville Chamberlain, Sir Arthur Steel-Maitland, Minister of Labour, George Lane-Fox, Secretary for Mines [later 1st Lord Bingley], Sir Horace Wilson, Secretary, Ministry of Labour, Ernest Gowers, Permanent Under-Secretary, Mines Department, and representatives of the Executive Committee of the Miners' Federation. Subjects discussed include: the rejection by the miners of the Coal Commission's proposals; the miners' inability to give decisions on their own responsibility; reform of the industry, particularly amalgamating pits, using selling agencies and closing uneconomic pits; benefits for unemployed miners; housing for miners.
