Notes of meeting on the coal dispute between Stanley Baldwin, Prime Minister, 4th Lord Salisbury, Lord Privy Seal [earlier Lord Cranborne], 1st Lord Birkenhead [earlier F E Smith], William Bridgeman, First Lord of the Admiralty, Neville Chamberlain, Sir Arthur Steel-Maitland, Minister of Labour, George Lane-Fox, Secretary for Mines [later 1st Lord Bingley], Sir Horace Wilson, Secretary, Ministry of Labour, Ernest Gowers, Permanent Under-Secretary, Mines Department, Christopher Hurst, Assistant Secretary, Mines Department, representatives of the Industrial Committee of the Trades Union Congress and representatives of the Executive Committee of the Miners' Federation. Subjects discussed include: the Government's proposal to set up an advisory committee attended by the miners and mine owners to advise the Mines Department on reorganisation of the industry, if the miners agreed to wage recommendations; the report of the Royal Commission into the industry; the Government's refusal to continue the subsidy to the industry; the miners' refusal to accept reduced wages.
