Notes of a meeting between Government Ministers (Winston Churchill, Chancellor of the Exchequer, Sir Arthur Steel-Maitland, Minister of Labour, George Lane-Fox, Secretary for Mines [later 1st Lord Bingley], and Sir Ernest Gowers, Permanent Under-Secretary, Mines Department) and the Miners' Federation on attempts to settle the miners' strike, including: the Government's refusal to give further financial aid to the industry; the effects of the strike upon the country; the miners' refusal to extend working hours and the Eight Hours Bill; a national minimum wage; the Government's support for the mine owners; the need for reorganisation of the industry.
