Telegram from Foreign Secretary [Anthony Eden, later Lord Avon] (San Francisco [United States]) to WSC marked "Top Secret", "personal" and "Private and Confidential" speculating on developments at the San Francisco Conference; how long Clement Attlee [Deputy Prime Minister] and he are likely to be away from the United Kingdom; giving his views on the "Empire party", Field Marshal Jan Smuts [Prime Minister of South Africa], Mackenzie King [Prime Minister of Canada], Dr Herbert Evatt [Australian Attorney General and Minister for External Affairs], Peter Fraser [Prime Minister of New Zealand] and "Bobbety" [Lord Cranborne, earlier Robert Gascoyne Cecil, later 5th Lord Salisbury, Secretary of State for the Dominions and Leader of the House of Lords]; and reporting on a discussion on Poland with Averell Harriman [United States Ambassador in the Soviet Union].
