Letter from C C West (La Rive, Rozel, Jersey, C[hannel] I[slands]) to WSC referring to a meeting with WSC "in the hunting field" in County Meath [Ireland] at the end of 1902 or early in 1903 when "you and I tossed up a coin to decide which of us was to have the sole remaining pad of a very gallant fox, you won", explaining how he came to be caught in Jersey during the German occupation, commenting on looting by the "Prussian" troops and the effects of lack of nutrition on his health, asking for help in getting to England offering to give WSC "the true facts concerning the German occupation of Jersey" which would be different to that of the Island authorities, commenting on the corruption of the States of Jersey, on the German military authorities, on the forthcoming royal visit and the unworthiness of the British Bailiff for a knighthood, on the bravery of the Guernsey Bailiff, on his reaction as an Irishman to WSC's broadcast to Eamon de Valera [Taoiseach (Head of Eire Government) and Minister for External Affairs], on his friendship with Field Marshal Lord Wavell, on his retirement from the Black Watch in 1921 with rank of Lieutenant Colonel, and on his move to Jersey in 1936.
