Scope and Contents

Copy of letter from the 7th Earl of Warwick (Warwick Castle, [Warwick, Warwickshire]) to WSC offering his "small measure of thanks...for the last years of endeavour", wishing WSC every success "in our next job", and bringing "good omens". He recounts how he heard news of WSC's resignation while with local workmen, who had been depressed until told that it was only a prelude to a General Election: " 'Oh' says one of them 'is that all!' 'I was feared we was going to lose him - General election don't matter- I reckon he'll be better off without some of those b-s he's got with him now!' " [Typescript] Annotated by WSC in red ink: "Tel [egram]/ Thank him so much/ Winston".
