Scope and Contents
Letter from Major General Sir Edward Spears [Conservative MP for Carlisle, Cumberland] to WSC thanking him for his telegram and asking him for a short letter, or a post script to the letter WSC may be sending to all Government candidates, making some reference to Spears' war service. [Signed typescript] With annotation by WSC querying what telegram he had sent to Spears, and a further note of 18 Jun from John Martin [Prime Minister's Principal Private Secretary] indicating that this was attached [see CHAR 20/200/43].
