Draft minute from WSC to Foreign Secretary [Anthony Eden, later 1st Lord Avon] and Chairman of the Conservative Party [Ralph Assheton, later 1st Lord Clitheroe] stating that they should see the letter from "Sir Louis Spears" [Major General Sir Edward Spears, Conservative MP for Carlisle, Cumberland] and WSC's reply [see CHAR 20/200/29-30]. "We do not want to lose the Seat. The matter is entirely confidential" [Typescript, initialled and dated by WSC] WSC has crossed through "Foreign Secretary" at the top of the minute, and noted in red ink that the Foreign Secretary "is to see the letter not my note to Mr Assheton", with further notes in 2 other hands indicating that this has been done.
