Letter from WSC to "Louis" [Major General Sir Edward Spears, Conservative MP for Carlisle, Cumberland] stating that it is not possible for him to "go into all these tangled matters in correspondence" but that he gathers Spears is "inclined to take a somewhat critical line against Government policy in Syria and the Lebanon" and that this does not seem correct while Spears is still in receipt of pay for deferred leave. "It is natural that if you attack the Government some of your Conservative supporters will be offended." [Carbon].
