Scope and Contents

Letter from Sir Archibald Southby [Conservative MP for Epsom, Surrey] to WSC expressing his "deep and lasting regret" that his illness had made it impossible for him to be in the House of Commons and hear "what was in fact a triumph for you after five years of war leadership". He explains that the trip to Germany, "which I felt it was my duty to undertake and which I shall never regret" had resulted in his illness, "a most unpleasant mixture of influenza and near jaundice" [Southby had been a member of the Parliamentary Delegation to Buchenwald Concentration Camp in April 1945]. [Signed typescript].
