Scope and Contents

Telegram from WSC to President Roosevelt marked "personal and private": expresses hope that his rather numerous telegrams are not becoming a bore and reflects on the development and importance of their relationship, "Our friendship is the rock on which I build for the future of the world so long as I am one of the builders"; states that he is sending most of his Ministerial colleagues to Washington or San Francisco [United States] on one Mission or another, that he is looking forward to Roosevelt's long promised visit, and that CSC is off to Russia for a Red Cross tour as far as the Urals [Soviet Union]; comments that peace with Germany and Japan "on our terms" will not bring much rest to the two of them, "when the war of the giants is over, the wars of the pygmies will begin", and states that, "There will be a torn, ragged and hungry world to help to its feet; and what will U.J. ["Uncle Joe", Marshal Stalin] or his successor say to the way we should both like to do it?"; concludes that he has had a good talk with Samuel Rosenman [Special Counsel to the President of the United States] "about our daily bread".
