Letter from [Alan] Hodge [Private Secretary] (Admiralty) to John Martin [Prime Minister's Principal Private Secretary] marked "private" stating that Brendan Bracken [First Lord of the Admiralty] has remarked that "as Sir James Marchant is one of the biggest bores alive, a ranting Methodist, pushful, wholly undesirable, and a gentleman whose projects would do no honour to the Prime Minister, he feels that he could not oblige you by seeing him".
