(Untitled), 08 Jun 1945
Scope and Contents
Letter from John Martin [Prime Minister's Principal Private Secretary] to Sir Miles Mitchell [Alderman of the City of Manchester] stating that "owing to the extreme pressure of his engagements" WSC regrets that he is unable to have a conversation with the Lord Mayor of Manchester [about proposal to confer Freedom of the City on General Dwight Eisenhower, Field Marshal Sir Harold Alexander and Field Marshal Bernard Montgomery], but that WSC thinks it would be a great mistake to proceed with the proposal during the election, and that the arrangements for General Eisenhower receiving the Freedom of the City of London were in train before the election was decided upon. [Carbon].
