(Untitled), 12 Feb 1945
Scope and Contents
Letter from R Wright [Counsellor] (British Embassy, Washington 8, DC, [United States]) to Philip Broadmead [Counsellor] (Foreign Office, London, SW1) marked "confidential" reporting that he had dined with Walter Lippman and passed on the message from WSC. He states that Lippman regretted that his visit had been so short, and comments on Lippman's "exceptionally good and helpful" articles since his return from Europe. Wright refers to paragraph 2 of Broadmead's letter [probably relating to recommendation that short visits by distinguished Americans should not be entirely taken up with engagements made for them by US authorities] and expresses view that it will be better to make the point direct to particular individuals as a general word to the War Department will get lost in the passages of the Pentagon. [Typescript copy] With filing notes indicating that this copy was sent to John Martin [Prime Minister's Principal Private Secretary] by the Foreign Office.
